Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

Position Summary:
Responsible for performing entry level, professional responsibilities specific to the needs of the Environmental Waste Services Department.
Essential Job Functions:
  1. To provide project support, particularly in the areas of producing project communications documents, issues management, customer service, and some clerical support. 
  2. Must be able to write Executive level memos, write website content, produce presentations, log and track progress of issues, understand basic concepts of project schedules and issues management. 
  3. May respond to phone and email queries on behalf of the Director. 
  4. Will attend meetings for the purpose of keeping minutes of meetings. 
  5. Will schedule meetings and keep project notebooks up-to-date. 
  6. May follow up with others to obtain updates on the status of their assignments.
  7. Ability to understand MS Project Gantt charts and to update our project management software (with training) to keep issues and project schedules up to date.
Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills:
Education/ Experience:     
  • 1 year education or experience in related area of study
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of business organizations
  • Technical and communications skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Ability to take on challenges and learn at  a quick pace

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions:
The incumbent works in a typical office environment; relatively free from any environmental hazards or conditions.

Pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university 
Must at least be in first year of college 
Knowledge of research, analysis, and statistics
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
