Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting with GIS-based analysis for environmental planning and process optimization.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct project assignments, research, and analysis.
- Create, edit, or acquire data and integrate into a database management system.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of data.
- Analyze geographic data.
- Apply technical knowledge to departmental projects.
- May prepare written reports, communication, or correspondence on behalf of the department.
- May make presentations on assignment status and progress.
Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills:
Education/ Experience:
- Graduate student status at a local university pursuing a degree, or completing major coursework, in geography, urban planning, or a closely related field.
- 1-3 years experience with GIS software, research, analysis, and statistics
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- General knowledge of geographic concepts
- General understanding of cartographic principles
- General knowledge of managing and processing data
- Skill in research and methodology analysis
- Skill in utilizing ArcGIS 9.1, ESRI Spatial Analyst, and ArcSDE
- Skill in utilizing statistical analysis software such as SPSS, SAS, or equivalent
- Skill in utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
- Skill in cartographic output
- Skill in preparing and communicating data analysis (written and oral)
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to multi-task

The incumbent works in a typical office environment with field work required.
