Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

Strategic Market Analyst – Real Estate (GIS) - (00006839)
Summary Description: The Strategic Market Analyst will assist the Strategic Market Planning Manager (Real Estate) in current and new market research, in addition to updating data for inclusion in quarterly Real Estate Strategy documents, request/review sales forecasts, perform competition assessments, submit and review lease assessment forms from brokers, market scorecard completion, Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) related project work, and map creation. Will assist in evaluating new software/technology as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Submits queries and data formatting for reporting purposes (JDE, PRS, PMWeb, CoStar, ESRI).
Internet research regarding economic activity from a submarket to city to metro/county level.
Interprets new unit sales forecasts and model variables and analyze their usage for current and future site/market application (and odd forecast results).
Strong experience and problem solving skills using ArcGIS and Business Analyst to support conclusions.
Perform extensive market research and build market analysis presentations.
Data formatting and analysis.
Actively engages with all parties to ensure quality of data, communications and reporting.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Business or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE: (Level of knowledge required to perform the job effectively)
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Strong analytic skills in Excel and experience with PowerPoint
Knowledge of GIS software either ESRI or MapInfo, ESRI ArcGIS, ESRI Business Analyst
Knowledge of Demographics and Psychographics.
Ability to read and comprehend a Profit/Loss Report or Financial Pro Forma
Proficiency in JD Edwards preferred
Experience with CoStar is a plus
Intermediate professional or theoretical knowledge and fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization in the execution of assigned duties and responsibilities
Basic understanding of budgetary concepts and procedures
Basic understanding of departmental structure and policies with basic understanding of the cross-functional structure and policies of Whataburger Restaurants, LLC
Elementary ability to delegate tasks and get work done through others.
Ability to prepare and present information to guests, more senior associates, vendors and management

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: (Certificate requirement appropriate to position)
GIS Certificate Program completion is a plus
