Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

Early notice - USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center - Remote Sensing Specialist

The USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center in Lafayette, Louisiana will be advertising for a full-time remote sensing specialist in the near future. The start date for the position is July 1. The applicant should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, remote sensing, GIS, or a related field. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Some of the duties of this job will include:
  1. object-based land cover classification of barrier island habitats using high resolution aerial photography,
  2. spatial analyses (e.g., developing statistics based on spatial location of features, developing new datasets though compilation of existing data, exploring patterns in spatial data, etc.),
  3. GIS data maintenance,
  4. review of scientific literature,
  5. preparation of figures, tables, and written reports.
