Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) Internships

NEON 2016 Internship Opportunities.

Terrestrial Microbial Ecology Internship: internship will include compilation and analysis of microbial metagenomic data from soils, and some work assisting with field site characterization efforts.
Terrestrial Ecology/Instrumentation Internship: internship will include site characterization field work and computer work analyzing the influence of instrument set-up and tower infrastructure on the quality and accuracy of meteorological measurements.
Engineering/Calibration Internship: internship will include optimization and evaluation of gas system calibration.
Airborne Observation Platform Internship: internship will involve developing software tools for open access of AOP data products, including performing preliminary analyses using the tool.
GIS Internship: internship will involve assisting with all aspects of GIS support work (e.g., integrating internal and external spatial datasets, preparing and publishing maps, updating metadata) and preparing maps to support field logistics.
EcoInformatics Internship: internship will involve assisting with building ontologies describing NEON data, writing an external API to NEON data, or writing code to generate dynamic data visualizations of NEON data.

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Current undergraduate with a least one semester of undergraduate studies remaining
  • US Citizen or permanent-resident status
