Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

City of Denton - Water and Wastewater - Engineering Intern II

Job Description
Responsible for the collection, analysis, and storage of data collected in the field to maintain a quality water and wastewater system.

Essential Functions

  • Assist Field Technical staff with surveying, CCTV inspection of sewer mains, installing flow meters, field investigations and other routine field operations related to water and wastewater.
  • Assist Office Technical staff with data entry, data retrieval, report generation, research, and other office related duties.
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Technical college or University
AND
  • Have completed one year of schooling toward a Technical degree.
Core Competencies:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
Conditions of Employment

  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week (M-F) in the summer.
  • Must be able to lift 80 lbs. Must be able to remove manhole covers

The City of Denton Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is designed to assist employees with identifying on or off-the-job personal or behavioral problems adversely affecting their work performance, work productivity, or ability to identify and locate appropriate medical, emotional, physical, financial, legal, or other appropriate resources. The program allows each employee to receive five face-to-face counseling sessions for each calendar year and unlimited access to a toll-free number at no cost to the employee. The EAP program is open to all City of Denton employees, their spouse and dependents, and retirees.

Workers Compensation
Eligibility: Immediately
Details: City provides supplemental pay to augment worker’s compensation payments for regular full-time employees. Length of supplemental pay is tied to service time within the City.

Details:  Direct deposit is mandatory for all City of Denton employees, and it is available through any financial institution or via pay card.
