Under the supervision of the Planning and Environmental Services Special Studies and Assessments Manager, this position will function as a watershed coordinator for the creation of a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) for the Lake Arlington/Village Creek watershed in Tarrant and Johnson counties, Texas. The position is funded through a 319 Grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The Coordinator will work closely with basin stakeholders (state agencies, citizens and NGOs) to facilitate steering committee meetings, provide leadership in public outreach efforts related to watershed planning, and develop the WPP according the requirements of the 319 grant. The successful candidate must understand the importance of mission accomplishment, possess excellent problem solving abilities and be detail oriented.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
1. Manage the 319 grant and budget ensuring that all grant deliverables are completed correctly and on time. This includes developing a WPP for the Lake Arlington/Village Creek watershed, identification of stakeholder priorities, assimilation of relevant data, and participation in public outreach activities.
2. Assist with field data collection including work in both urban and rural stream ecosystems. This work will require the ability carry sampling equipment on uneven terrain and follow Texas Surface Water Quality Monitoring (SWQM) field data collection guidelines.
3. Coordinate Steering Committee activities and provide technical and logistical support to stakeholders. Leadership and the ability to communicate effectively with state and local agencies, basin citizens and NGOs is imperative.
Required Qualifications:
- BS (MS preferred) in Natural Science, Geography, Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geomorphology, Water Resources or a closely related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to effectively coordinate and manage complicated projects to successful outcomes.
- Training or experience in conflict management, group communication, and/or facilitation is preferred.
- Excellent writing and public presentation skills.
- Ability work effectively alone and within a team.
- Proven time management and task prioritization skills.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Access.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Familiarization with ArcGIS and SWAT is preferred.
Salary and Position Details:
This position is full time with benefits and is funded by a 319 grant through February, 2018. The long-term goal for this project includes securing additional funding for implementation and monitoring activities after the WPP is complete.
This position will be housed at the Trinity River Authority’s General Office in Arlington, TX.
