INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT RODALE INSTITUTE
The Rodale Institute, founded by organic agriculture
pioneer J.I. Rodale, is a non-profit organization dedicated to regenerative
organic agriculture research and outreach to farmers, policymakers, and the
general public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Have, or
are currently working towards, a bachelor’s degree preferably in biology, environmental science, agronomy or a related
field
§ Preference
is given to those who have completed a course in Soil Ecology, Soil Biology or Living Soils).
§ Experience
with data collection
§ Proficiency
and experience in entering and summarizing data in Excel
§ Hands-on sustainable
agriculture experience (research or production) preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES (training will be provided):
One or more of the following:
§ Lay out
experimental field plots
§ Assist
with greenhouse plantings
§ Conduct
lab experiments
§ Tend and
maintain experiments including weeding, staking plants, assessing plant community
structure, preforming microscope assessments
§ Collect
and process samples from the field
§ Enter data
for statistical analysis and interpretation
§ Work with
research staff to assume field, lab, and data-entry coordination responsibility for one of the following
project roles
Location: The
Institute is located on a 333-acre farm in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Housing will be close to the farm, but not on
the farm. Bicycle or car will be necessary for personal
transportation.
Hours: 40
hours/week.
Compensation:
Training will be provided for all summer interns. Rodale will provide a room in a house, and
produce from the farm as available through the summer from the ASC production
vegetable gardens. Eggs will be
available at times from the Rodale flock.
Each house will be provided with basic supplies such as oil, salt, flour, etc. Please supply your own bedding and personal items.
Project Descriptions:
Training in the various projects and programs Rodale is involved in this
summer will be provided. Interns can
choose to focus on one of Rodale’s work projects:
