Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

Weston Solutions delivers integrated environmental, sustainability, property redevelopment, energy, and construction solutions.  This internship would work closely with IT Developers on creating technology initiatives to showcase to our clients.

This position would be full time through the summer; part time is possible if the workload allows and the student wishes to continue on in the fall.

Qualifications:
ArcGIS desktop application suite required.
ArcGIS Server experience ideal.
ESRI Flexviewer API ideal.
Python ideal.
Adobe Flash and Flexviewer Widgets ideal.
JavaScript language and Mapping not required but a plus.
Any mobile application development a plus.
Microsoft Access ideal.

NCTCOG GIS Technician II

Job Description
Since 1991, North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Regional 9-1-1 Program has served as the planning and implementation organization for 9-1-1 services on behalf of their local governments. While the technology has changed rapidly over the years, today the North Central Texas region boasts some of the most advanced technology in the 9-1-1 industry and continues to stay on the cutting edge. An integral part of the region’s advanced technological deployments has included several comprehensive Geographical Information Systems (GIS) solutions. As NCTCOG coordinates 9-1-1 GIS for 13 counties within the region, the team’s charter is to assist these counties and their municipalities in administering and developing valuable 9-1-1 GIS data.

The NCTCOG 9-1-1 Program is seeking a GIS Technician to collect, maintain and QA/QC GIS data that will be coalesced in to the Public Safety Enterprise GIS Environment. The position will require a close working relationship with the relevant addressing authority in several counties. Since 1974, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area.  The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.

EnLink Midstream GIS Internship

EnLink Midstream GIS Internship

Department Description:
            The EnLink Midstream GIS Group currently manages a little over 7300 miles of pipelines across the South Central and Midwestern US.   We work in a team environment utilizing the latest Esri Software available including ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE and Portal for ArcGIS.
Position Description:
             The intern will work with the GIS Group in assisting with the process of data mining, data updating, and data creation in an Enterprise Geodatabase.  Tasks will include:
  • Georeferencing Alignment Sheets and entering missing pipeline information.
  • Updating structures and other encroachments along the pipelines.
  • Other duties as needed.

Position Requirements:
  • Candidates should be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Geography/GIS and in their Junior or Senior year.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS 10.x software.
  • Experience with the following is a plus but not required: Geodatabase/ArcSDE and Georeferencing.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel; be detail-oriented; and possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Position Details:
  • Must be able to work 30 - 40hrs/week between June 2nd and August 8th excluding holidays.
  • Office location is in Uptown near Cedar Springs & Fairmount.
  • This is a paid internship.
