SALARY: $9.00 - $14.00 Hourly OPENING DATE: 06/09/16   CLOSING DATE: 06/30/16 11:59 PM   JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the general supervision of the Planning Supervisor or designee, the Planning Intern supports the Current and Long Range Planning Team with planning projects.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists with special projects, including collecting data, analyzing results, preparing various reports and illustrative materials Conducts special research for various Planning projects Conducts field work, collecting existing condition data Assists the Planning Team with community meetings Conducts basic functions such as data entry and file management Assists with customer inquiries and requests Additional Duties: Performs other department support functions as assigned Typical Knowledge: Basic understanding of principles and practices of the Planning field Specific knowledge of urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and land use principles Interact with customers professionally and provide good customer service Knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook Typical Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills Strong research and analytical skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Flexible and adaptable to working on various Planning projects   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master degree in Planning, Urban Development, Public Administration or related field   CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check Must be able to work 20 hours a week Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required   Applicants must satisfy all conditions of employment as outlined in the position announcement.
