ELIGIBILITY: Geography and cartography majors at United States colleges and universities who are currently enrolled in their junior or senior year or in a master’s degree program.
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM: To give students a professional learning experience through participation in various projects aimed at the increase and diffusion of geographic knowledge. Interns are given the opportunity to apply knowledge and classroom techniques to practical publication procedures or other geographic outreach projects.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITY: Interns may be assigned to work in one of the many divisions within the National Geographic Society such as education, one of the magazines, books, television, or maps. Assignments may also include work on an increasing number of geographic outreach projects.
PERIOD OF INTERNSHIPS (14 OR 15 WEEKS):
Spring: January 21 through April 25, 2014
Summer: May 19 through August 22, 2014
Fall: September 8 through December 19, 2014
LOCATION: Interns will work at National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
REMUNERATION: Interns will be paid $450 per week for a 40-hour workweek, plus a travel allowance to help defray expenses in traveling to Washington, D.C.
HOUSING: Interns are responsible for their lodging in the Washington, D.C., area, including meals and other living expenses.

3. up-to-date official college transcripts, including undergraduate course work if applying as a master’s degree student;
4. three letters of recommendation (one from the applicant’s department chair or academic advisor and two from geography faculty members with whom the applicant has been associated);
5. a cover letter that clearly states the semesters (Spring 2014, Summer 2014, Fall 2014) that the applicant is available and the applicant’s first choice of semesters.

GIS tech - Templeton Demographics
Templeton Demographics, located in Southlake, is looking for a GIS person to help
with our Demographic studies. The position would be collecting and cleaning up
data, making maps based on client requests, updating client folders with
current GIS data, creating and analyzing student yields within school
districts, and other needs as necessary. It would be an hourly job working at
least 20 hours a week and up to 40 if the applicant can give us that much.

Part-time student position, environmental/water quality
Seeking a student to work part-time (10-40 hours/week) with the following qualifications, for the job described below. Must obtain a strong faculty recommendation before applying.

Job Description:
Mix of field work and office work. Field work includes operating company
vehicles, soil sampling, water sampling, operating a wide range of
environmental equipment. The office work consists of environmental
reporting, which includes data entry of lab results, data interpretation,
statistical analysis, and report preparation. Some of the “office” duties
may be conducted off site (e.g., at home).
The field work consists of at least one full work day, and
often more than one work day, e.g. Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, etc.
Accordingly, I need a student who has non-class days available during the work
week so they can conduct out-of-town field work. Students who have
classes five days/week will not be suitable.
Hours
During the semester, generally 10-25 hours/week.
During the summer, generally 40 hours/week.
Compensation
The first week of employment consists of training at home by taking the 40-hour
computer-based HAZWOPER training. This training will be compensated at
$10/hour for 40 hours. After this training is complete, all other work is
compensated at $14/hour. This position does not offer job benefits.
Hiring
We partner through a temp-to-perm placement agency to bring
on new employees. In the long term, the best part-time employees may be
offered full-time SCS employment with benefits.
