The City of Victoria Development Services Department is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Planning Intern. The Planning Intern is a temporary, summer internship for college students majoring in Geography, Urban Planning or related field. The Planning Intern will create and update various geographic datasets, perform database development and other GIS and development-related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Must be currently pursuing a college degree with emphasis or major in geography or planning related field.
Requires a working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software and an understanding of mapping principles, database design and aerial photography.
Must have general knowledge of computers, and good data entry skills.
Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
Ability to document technical information.
Knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Valid Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets City guidelines.

Compensation

The salary is $12/hour, 40 hours per week.

The goal of Real Time Farms is to collectively document the entirefood system, so whether eating in, or dining out, you can trace your food backto the farm it came from and feel good about the food you eat. Our Food WarriorProgram is integral to this social mission.

Description
FoodWarriors work to bring the stories of their local food producers andartisans to life, through photos, video, stories, and growing practices. In sodoing, you will be connecting everyday consumers to the information they needto make informed decisions about what they eat. You will learn about foodphotography, food blogging, and documentary film, and have a chance to applyyour new skills while directly interacting with local producers: taking photos,recording and editing video, collecting information on growing practices andpersonal stories, and contributing to the Real Time Farms blog. Exemplary workmay be considered for inclusion in Slow Food USA’s blog.

Food Warriors will work approximately 15-20 hours each week andwill be responsible for uploading all the information, photos, and videocompiled to the Real Time Farms website. The internship is unpaid, but studentsmay earn academic credit for completing the internship. I am willing towork with individuals to adjust program expectations to better meet academicrequirements.

Interns are able to adjust the internship around their ownschedules, but should be available for one 1-hour virtual group meeting eachMonday. Internet access and a camera are essential.

Enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and passion for food transparencyare a must. Writing, videography, and photography experience are a plus.

In case you aren’t familiar with it, AmeriCorps NCCC isthe National Civilian Community Corps and is a full-time national serviceprogram. It is a 10 month, team-based, residential program that providesopportunities for young adults to perform service that addresses the criticalneeds in urban and rural communities. NCCC members work in teams of10-12 to complete projects in the areas of the environment, energyconservation, infrastructure improvement, disaster relief, and urban and ruraldevelopment. NCCC is also starting a partnership with FEMA which willincrease members’ opportunities for working in disaster relief areas.

NCCC is only for individuals ages 18-24 at the time theirservice commitment begins. So it is perfect for students who havejust graduated from college and still aren’t quite sure what they want to do,are having trouble finding a job, or who want to take a break betweenundergraduate and graduate school. NCCC is a great opportunity for ourstudents, especially in this job market, and it allows them to gain valuable,hands-on job experience.

Under the direction of the Complex Resource Specialist/Greenbelt Manager, this position will serve as the Natural Resource Management Intern for the Ray Roberts Lake Complex (11 Park Units total). This is an unpaid internship for the State Park Division. Duties involve assisting with various assignments of natural resource management which may include, herbicide application in the park's prairie and wetland areas, shredding prairies, manual removal of trees, and controlling invasive species. Undergraduate Studies in Earthquake InformationTechnology (UseIT) is an 8-week team-based undergraduate research program that allowsstudents to work in multi-disciplinary collaborative teams to tackle ascientific "Grand Challenge" where they use the advanced tools of informationtechnology to solve important problems in interdisciplinary earthquake research. Duringthe 2011 internship the focus of the program was to develop a SeismicSequence Visualization System based on SCEC-VDO and GIS that can display earthquakesequences, monitor their evolution in space and time, and assess their hazards andrisks. SCEC-VDO is the SCEC intern-developed visualization software that allowsthe user to see earthquake related phenomena in three dimensions.

The SCEC Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)is an 8-10 week program that pairs a student, one-on-one, to conduct researchwith a pre-eminent earthquake scientist or specialist. Many SURE internsalso have the opportunity to work alongside graduate students and post-doctoralresearchers, and thus gain the special perspective of these early careerprofessionals.

The George Melendez Wright Climate Change Youth Initiative is sponsored by the National Park Service Climate Change Response Program, in partnership with the National Council for Science and the Environment. This program provides undergraduate and graduate students a chance to work among park personnel to help find solutions to the unique challenges of climate change. These opportunities are designed to complement and enhance the intern's formal education through hands-on experience, and introduce them to the national park service as a potential place to make a career. Through the intern's work, parks are able to gain insight into the ever evolving climate change sciences being taught.

Job Description:

Provide geological support for the planning and execution of well drilling programs by developing and maintaining structurally and geologically valid 3-D models of Pioneer’s Permian Basin assets using Petrel. In close cooperation with Asset geoscientists, develop characterizations of the Permian assets that fully integrates well, seismic, completion and production data into a valid model that is useful to accurately design development well trajectories and completions, and estimate outcomes of drilling and completion activities. Communicate regularly and in a timely way with the Asset Team and Geophysical Technology Team at all stages of the process to ensure a technically credible, consistent and up-to-date geological interpretation. This job description reflects the minimum job duties for the lower level position.

Requirements:

A Master's degree in Geosciences is required, with a minimum of 4 years of petroleum industry interpretation experience. Successful candidate will be integrating geologic well data with newly acquired 3D seismic data to create detailed depth-structure, amplitude, and isopach maps on reservoir intervals of interest. Utilize advanced log interpretation results generated by Asset petrophysicists to create geologically valid models of the spatial distributions of reservoir properties, and assist in estimation of potential pay and reservoir volumetrics. Utilize synthetic seismograms, checkshot and other data to generate valid time-depth relationships that accurately tie well and seismic data. Utilize seismic attribute volumes generated by the Geophysical Technology Team to develop credible quantitative models of the distributions of hydrocarbons in place and rock strength parameters. Coordinate storage of field, and well data and ensure that current and valid digital data are loaded to the Petrel environment from appropriate databases. Provide assistance in rock properties, reservoir characterization, and reservoir performance/simulation studies including the development of earth models for input to reservoir simulations. Make models and model results readily available and useable in day-to-day operational decision-making by Asset staff. These requirements reflect the minimum requirements for the lower level position. The level at which a candidate is hired into is dependent upon the skill level and previous related experience of that candidate and the minimum qualifications for such level that they are hired.
