Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for GIS technical support of the Real Estate Division in delivery of the City of Denton’s programs and services. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Meets with staff to define data needs, requirements, and required outputs.
  • Collects, verifies and analyzes real estate and demographic data.
  • Performs mapping, graphs, and analysis using ESRi – ArcMap 10.1 GIS software and related equipment.
  • Updates, modifies, populates, existing databases; creates new databases based on division needs.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and integrates spatial data, and determines how best the information should be displayed using GIS.

Produces a variety of high quality geographic and demographic materials for marketing purposes; Uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) fundamental concepts, practices and procedures proficiently to accomplish analytical work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Consults with sales professionals to define project requirements, investigating various approaches to attain end results.
  • Develops advanced specialized maps, utilizing geographic and demographic information using programming, database, and graphics skills. Assists with Mapping Center quality control processes while adhering to company policy on quality assurance.
  • Mentors the activities of GIS Technicians, including support for analytical mapping jobs for production; provides support and assistance for extra workload as needed.
