Course credit for internships

Students who are interested in obtaining credit for internships should first secure an internship with a provider. Once confirmed, contact Dr. Hudak, for permission to register for GEOG 4920/5900.

You will be required to compile a portfolio during the course of your internship and provide a letter of assessment from the internship provider. Both will be used to determine a "grade" for the course.

Natural Resource Management Internship - Lake Ray Roberts

Title: Natural Resource Management Intern Posting Number: 12-01-003 Position Reference Number: SP56

Description & Duties:
Under the direction of the Complex Resource Specialist/Greenbelt Manager, this position will serve as the Natural Resource Management Intern for the Ray Roberts Lake Complex (11 Park Units total). This is an unpaid internship for the State Park Division. Duties involve assisting with various assignments of natural resource management which may include, herbicide application in the park's prairie and wetland areas, shredding prairies, manual removal of trees, and controlling invasive species. Other duties include reporting information/data for all natural and cultural resource clearances needed for park project planning, assisting with ongoing natural resource projects, and monitoring cultural resource areas. Assists with park interpretive programs, park promotion, and volunteer recruitment. Performs duties that include, but not limited to participation in a full range of tasks to learn all aspects of park operations and management; facility maintenance and management; trail maintenance and management; customer service; and park administration. Periodically attends meetings with private landowners, community organizations, and other state and federal agencies. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and branch rules, regulations. and procedures. Special project will include design, complete, and present Invasive Species Management Plan for Ray Roberts Lake Complex.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 12 semester hours from an accredited college.
  • Must meet program eligibility;
  • May perform duties outdoors in all weather types.

Working Conditions: 10-12 week position (may be reduced/extended as needed) I ncludes non-traditional schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays; Some overnight travel may be required.

Housing: Temporary housing may be available on site (based on availability).  Campsite available.
